Lei Geral de Protecao de Dados (LGPD) was directly modeled after GDPR and is almost identical in terms of scope and application, but with severe financial penalties for non-compliance. Companies wishing to do business with Latin America's largest economy will have to comply with the LGPD or be subject to fines of up to BRL 50 million (approx. €11.8 million).
